The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is a global organization of 10 million girls.
Across sub-Saharan Africa, Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting brings girls and young women fun and friendship – as well as providing a unique opportunity for personal development, education and professional training.
The Africa Region of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) has 31 Member Organizations. There are 700,000 Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in the region today. A list of Member Organizations in the Africa Region can be viewed under the Member Organizations section.
To make the most of our unique strengths, WAGGGS Africa Region and its Member Organizations work in partnership with many NGOs and UN agencies such as the Economic Commission for Africa , the African Union and UNICEF.
The Africa Region offers girls and young women opportunities to learn and develop and to participate fully in the welfare of their communities.
In Africa, the socio-economic situation and some cultural traditions make it difficult for many women to develop their full potential. WAGGGS’ Member Organizations work to redress this, providing a safe environment for our young members to learn life-skills and take part in projects that make it possible to earn an income. Community development projects form a very important of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting in Africa.
